Since June 1, 2005, the Office of Administrative Hearings (OAH) has been handling Special Education hearings. OAH has recently begun two projects that will assist parents in understanding and navigating the legal landscape. This information will also be valuable for Special Education Attorneys whether representing parents or educational agencies.
First, Special Education Advisory Committee Meetings will now be webcast. The Southern California meeting will be held on October 15, 2008 from 9am to 4pm. The Northern California meeting will be on October 22, 2008 from 9am to 4pm. Both meetings can be accessed live from the OAH website at www.oah.dgs.ca.gov by going to the Special Education section and then clicking on the link to the Special Education Advisory Page.
Second, OAH is in the process of preparing a Parent Manual. The draft manual is available at the OAH website and community input is being sought. Comments must be received by December 1, 2008.
